Find your RV playground.

For those who follow the open road.
The story

Designing a modern interface.

Our client, RoadPass Digital, are masters of the open road. Their family of brands encompass recreational travel, providing customers with necessities, resources and community.

The Campendium app is tailored to campers and RVers. It offers users the ability to explore top campgrounds across the country and find resting points with the appropriate amenities for their rig.

RoadPass delivers a level-of-standard in their user experiences that needed to find it's way into their Android app, after having updated the iOS application prior.

This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase on of our most potent capabilities—beautiful design reflecting thoughtful UX conventions.
Where we started

A quick glimpse of the Campendium app before the design refresh.

Leveling up

A systematic approach to experience building.

This is where we immerse ourselves in the workings of the app, along with the goals and business objectives of user engagement, to distill them down to the essential building blocks.

From there, we begin to restack those building blocks to form new conventions, new flows, and a new experience.

Explore + search

The primary function of the app is to enable campers to search, evaluate and find suitable grounds for their ideal campsite. We wanted this to feel as familiar as using their favorite wayfinding app.

Campgrounds

Some areas, like national parks, have several campgrounds. And not all campsites are created equal, so we made sure the campground details were easily digestible for users on-the-go.

Questions + reviews

What makes Campendium special is the community of campers they've built. It's that very community that instills trust in one another, valuing peer feedback above all else. Rate, review and share it all.

Camper profiles

Every camper can store visited and favorite campgrounds, their history of feedback and reviews, peer-to-peer questions + answers and photos of their campsites in the app.
Explore + search

Big adventure begins with big inspiration.

We imagined a entirely new "home" experience for Campendium users. Instead of just tossing them into a search, they land on a map with the ability to discover.
The app opens to a fresh map screen, where campers can search, filter, adjust map layers or swipe the Explore card up from the bottom.
The entirely new Explore screen gives campers quick access to their favorite campgrounds, as well as curated picks for the top campgrounds of the week.
Searching is simple, yet powerful. But we wanted to give campers some inspiration too. Discover some of the best natural attractions on the continent.
Campendium's map layers give campers access to the vital info they need, like where they can catch a signal while exploring the great outdoors.
Searching in Campendium is intuitive. Simply type a keyword or tap a quick filter. See your results in a hybrid view, or swipe up to view the list in full screen.
Campers will find their search history available with just one tap on the search bar. Recent searches are listed and categorized to make them scannable.
Campgrounds

Find the next stop on your adventure.

Campground detail screens provide campers with all of the essential information they need to determine whether or not the site is equipped with the necessary amenities.
These screens are packed with camper info. Get a quick overview at the top of the card, with clear tags for critical amenities.

Browse photos, contact info, detailed site features, local cellular performance, common questions + answers, and peer reviews.
Questions + reviews

Rely on each other.

The most valuable Campendium asset is the community of campers they support. Everyday, campers are sharing their stories, submitting reviews and providing answers to their fellow traveler's questions.

Historically, this is where users spend most of their time when not actively searching for campgrounds.
Campers love the community reviews because they're full of great info. Campendium does a great job of surfacing the things campers care most about.
Together, with the community's first-hand accounts of the grounds, the attractions, facilities and service, campers have references they can trust.
Camper profiles

Your place in the community.

A profile is nothing new, but it's not to be overlooked. It's where the adventures are stored. Each review posted tells a story and captures a moment in time. The profile gives campers a way back to those moments, along with control over their experience in the app.
All the things you'd expect in a profile. Campers can pick their avatar or profile photo, find old reviews and rediscover photos of their travels.
Account management, or upgrade to Roadpass Pro, is simple and intuitive. Connect social accounts to make sharing even more convenient.
Dark mode

Or as campers call it: night mode.

Campendium's light interface is subtle, but sleek. It's great during the day, when you need a bright screen to outshine the sun. But when the sun sets, things get a little darker.
The outcome

Here's what we delivered in the end.

With our focus on interface design and refreshing the user experience, we measured success in terms of capabilities that passed user acceptance testing and were delivered to development.
